Why GPS alone isn't enough.

GPS gives you a search area – but the moment your cat ends up in a garage, a shed or a basement, the GPS signal stops. That's exactly where our radio close-range finding takes over: it leads you through walls, straight to your cat.

GPS + radio close-range finding working together
The problem with GPS alone

GPS is great for the search area. Not for finding.

GPS signals come from satellites. They work well outdoors – but trees, buildings and obstacles cause gaps. And indoors, in garages or basements? Walls block the signal completely.

Exactly where cats typically get stuck – behind a closed door, in a neighbour's shed – GPS stops helping you.

Open field
GPS works well. You get a search area.
Between houses
GPS becomes imprecise, gaps appear.
Indoors / basements
GPS signal blocked. Your cat disappears from the map.
The solution

GPS + radio – two systems searching together.

petTracer combines satellite GPS with our own radio technology. GPS shows you the search area, and radio close-range finding leads you – like a metal detector – to your cat, even if she's locked inside a room.

GPS – the search area

Shows in the app where your cat was last outdoors. Up to 30 days battery in power saving mode. Route tracking even offline, with catch-up once she's back in range.

Radio – close-range finding

Via the HomeStation. Range of around 250–300 m in populated areas. Passes through walls where GPS fails. Shows direction and distance like a direction finder – you simply follow the signal straight to your cat.

GPS-only vs. GPS + radio

The difference between searching and finding.

ScenarioGPS-onlypetTracer (GPS + radio)
Cat outdoors
Cat between buildingspartial
Cat in garage / shed
Cat in basement / behind thick walls
Range without mobile network
No mobile radiation on the collar (low emission)
Live direction finding like a metal detector
Safety

No mobile radiation on the collar.

The petTracer collar does not emit mobile network radiation. Instead it uses a radio signal similar to a baby monitor – with radiation levels around 100 times lower than a mobile signal. petTracer was designed from the ground up to put your cat's safety and wellbeing first.
